I’ve been meaning to write this post for quite some time now. I think it’s such an important topic of discussion, especially going into 2018, another year in the age of social media and all things digital!

Don’t take me wrong though, I love using social media for positive purposes and also to explore other helpful & positive content that people share. There are so many inspiring and useful things I have come across online, I have to give thanks that we have access to such a wonderful tool which can bring people and ideas together.

Winter is all about comfort food and a warm, savoury daal can be super satisfying and also quite a healthy option. (That is if you do not intend on adding tons of ghee or too much oil). If you are vegetarian, daals are perfect since they are packed with protein and are easy to digest.

I  was put off of daal for awhile as I found it quite bland and had a texture similar to baby food. But this moong daal as awoken my love for daal once again. This recipe is packed with bold flavours and a rich texture that is added from the toppings that you will place on it at the end.

And did you know moong dal is actually low in carbs as well? *Bonus*

You can eat this with a side of basmati rice & veggie dish, as a meal, as it is surprisingly filling. (These ingredients can be found at most Asian supermarkets).

Let me know what you think!

Hello again 🙂

Just when you think life is getting on track and your schedule is all set-up for success, *bam*, there comes life smacking you right in the face. That’s how it goes of course, we will be tested, and life is, let’s say…unpredictable. All we can do is roll with the punches and go with the flow as best we can. It’s been a little busy on the work front and I’m currently running to and from job interviews for my next opportunity out there in the real world lol. I have a few posts I’ve been preparing and waiting to share, but in the meantime, instead of my lil blog getting lonely, I decided to post something short and sweet in the interim!

I wanted to share with you my current must-haves for this time of year. These are tried and tested products, and some of them literally SAVE my skin and my beauty in this bitter, face-hurting, climate. Here we go:

1. Aura Cacia Organic Argan Oil

After visiting a women’s co-operative in Morocco that produces argan oil, I watched the local Berber women as they went through the entire production process of this beautiful oil, all using traditional methods without the help of machinery, this was life-changing! How many of us actually get to watch how our skin care products are being made from start to finish, and also see what exactly goes into it? Having this rare opportunity allowed me to truly appreciate this beautiful oil all the more. The Moroccan women have traditionally used the oil for various skin & hair treatments far before we saw the craze reach popularity in the western world. I stocked up on a few bottles and vouched that I would only buy argan oil from responsible and sustainable sources. This one I purchase at Healthy Planet, but there are many good brands you can check out at your local natural health shop. (I steer clear from drug store brands for argan oil, as most of those brands dilute the purity and add several extra chemicals to the mix.) Argan oil contains high levels of skin-rejuvenating essential fatty acids and is ideal for naturally brightening your skin and hair.

2. Shea Terra Moroccan Rose Beauty Water

Another beautiful product sourced from Morocco, is this rose-water which is to die for! Made with roses from the oasis valley of Kelaat M’Gouna, Morocco, millions of roses are turned into fragrant, soothing and anti-aging rose-water.  It is 100% natural and made from nothing other than pure Moroccan rose-water (rosa damascena). It has such a sweet, floral, fragrance which is instantly replenishing.  I use this as a hydrating toner after washing my face, followed by argan oil. Add a little to a mask along with a little yogurt for a soothing mask that can plump up cells. Beauty in a bottle!

3. Coco Noir by Chanel

Of course this is not a skin-care product, but it is my go-to scent for the colder months and surely a must-have. It’s a rich and lovely scent that lasts the entire day. Coco Noir contains a top note of Grapefruit, a heart note of May Rose and the lovely addition of Geranium Rose Leaf, while Venezuelan Tonka Bean and Indonesian Patchouli notes add warmth.

4. Mac Lipstick in ‘Hot Chocolate’

Ok, this is the perfect colour. I mean it. The saddest part is that it is actually discontinued as it was a limited edition that I stocked up on last year. I still had to include it though because it is such a beautiful colour for this time of year, a cool plum with a satin finish. Sadly, I cannot find anything quite like it. Others may come close, but for me, this was a perfect shade. Bring this colour back Mac, pretty please!!!

I’ll link some similar products that you can purchase below!

Until next time,

So it’s that time of year guys. And no, this post does not contain a Pumpkin Spice Latte recipe as you may have thought. This outfit just reminded me of the colours of one the most popular beverages of the season and I thought it was catchy title. 🙂

I enjoy fall as I am a natural neutral lover and get to break out my beautiful browns, tans, and caramels and rock them without looking dull, as you would, wearing them during the bright & colourful summer.

Pumpkin Spice Latte

Some people are afraid to rock certain tones of brown but I think it can be made to look so rich and beautiful if paired correctly. I plan on sharing many more posts featuring these colours and look forward to share more ways to rock browns and neutrals with you guys. Some say not to mix brown and black (my heels are black here), but really I am not one for rules and to be completely honest I chose these ones over my brown heels for comfort reasons. No shame in admitting, comfort can sometimes take precedent over fashion rules, depending on the day.

The day this photo was taken we took a short day trip to Hamilton, Ontario to see the falls and stopped off at one of my fave Italian restaurants, Maccheroni Cucina Alfresco. Mammi Mia, their Spaghettini De Mare…TO DIE FOR!

I love experimenting with fashion and sometimes different make-up products. Perfume on the other hand, not quite. My favourite perfumes are the ones I have been using since I first started wearing perfume, sometime during high school. I would occasionally sneak into my mom’s bathroom and quietly look through her collection of perfume bottles. Whichever I liked from the bunch I would spray, attempting to be inconspicuous, and be on my way. I guess you could say I received my first perfume inspiration from my mom, a lady with great taste!

Here in Toronto we have had 30ºC and above temperatures this last week which made Fall seem non-existent. Then I wake up today suddenly freezing…just another bipolar episode of Canada’s weather situation.

I thought this would be the perfect time to write my farewell to summer of ’17 and come to terms with the fact that the cold weather is approaching, whether I like it or not. Don’t get me wrong, I love the colours and scents of Fall along with the crisp air but the winter has me hoping to eventually get a vacation house somewhere warm & beautiful. GOALS.

This summer was full of ups and downs, though more ups than downs (thank God) but it was a hell of a ride. I will miss it all! Not only that, this summer was full of amazing learning experiences and was also the time I started this blog, so it’s a little special for me. ♥

I started this blog as an outlet for all my thoughts, things I’ve learned and things that inspire me, in an effort to share all of this and in turn inspire someone else. Spreading positivity and light is what I’m about. I wasn’t sure what would come out of it and to be honest, I’m still not, but I have to say I love it and I’m enjoying the journey thus far. I have to say, all of the support I have received in such a short time has been so heartwarming!

One of my last summer getaways was a long weekend visit to the Bruce Peninsula in Ontario. There is so much nature up there to explore.

Farewell Summer '17 + My Relaxed Getaway Style

I decided to keep it comfortable but still stylish, as I normally do on a weekend getaway. I bought this pleated dress from H&M on sale for $10 and layered it with a long sleeve top, talk about budget-friendly. Dressing modest doesn’t have to mean sacrificing on all the cute, sleeveless dresses out there, layering with a light, long sleeve top underneath is all you gotta do.

Farewell Summer '17 + My Relaxed Getaway Style

I love to wrap my headscarf, turban-ish style, with certain outfits or when I’m looking for something really comfortable! This will most likely be the last time you will see me in pink, it’s back to neutrals and jewel tones for me!

I also wrote a post not too long ago on preparing for the upcoming Fall & Winter with important tips & tricks, check it out here!

Until next time…

I think its important we talk about this more often, especially us ladies in this modern age of superficiality. How many of us sit down to our daily dose of social media browsing and are bombarded with images of the “ideal” beauty standard, displaying images of “perfection” and dictating how a woman in this day in age should strive to look like?

Let’s start off with the fact that Viva Divine has been just a tad quiet over the month of August, but I do plan on picking things up this month and onwards!

August was a hectic and interesting month to say the least. If anyone else felt the month was full of ups and downs, went by in a flash, and came with many changes, whether internal or external, you’re not alone! August was just that for me, which is why I took some time to refocus and realign my goals to make sure they are where I want them to be. Of course I did take the month to fully enjoy what we have left of summer here in Canada, as some of you can relate, this time we have is super precious and must be cherished!
